In The Dark

In The Dark Album Cover (Beatdrop)
In The Dark gets its name from the Beatdrop album of the same name. The intent of the theme is a total lack of color and visual 'bubbly-ness' that has run rampant since the beginning of this millenium. Its simplicity has been described as helpful to those with and without visual impairments, and its icon set is clear cut, with noticable differentiations on events (like hovering and clicking) as well as an abundance of the most soothing color on a computer monitor: black!

In The Dark for Firefox 3.6 on Windows 7
* Mozilla Firefox versions 2, 3, 3.5, and 3.6 have a complete theme available, containing custom icons for every single feature and facet of the browser, all wrapped in a black-based grayscale standard interface, which is noticably quicker than the standard Firefox theme. A version for Firefox 4 and Thunderbird (who knows what version...) will be avialable eventually. The browser version thing Mozilla is doing is making me wonder how long I'll have to release versions here and there, so I'm sort of waiting things out and experimenting with CSS3 to see what I can do with In The Dark for Firefox 4 to cut back on image usage. Unfortunately, no planned date can be given for a release.

In The Dark for Trillian
* Trillian, the multiprotocol Instant Messaging client from CeruleanStudios, gets similar treatment with a custom interface designed for simplicity and unobtrusive functionality. In The Dark for Trillian functions on all versions above 3, though the version for 4 (Astra) just runs on 5... I'll probably make a better version for 5 soon. The icon packs in this theme are rather simplistic, but not grayscale... I'll probably change that eventually, too.

In The Dark for Windows XP
* Windows XP, despite its many faults, now has a mostly functional dark theme in this port of In The Dark. Be warned, though, Microsoft never intended a black-based interface, so there's a lot of software that will simply look terrible with this theme. It should improve interface display speed a bit over the Luna theme, regardless, though, and of course the whole Operating System will be more pleasant to your eyes.
